Why That Strange Domain Name?

You might have hit this site through the rather unusual name of bangtherockstogether.com.

OK. You get it, but why that particular name? Good question.

There are actually several reasons:

  1. Since I carve stone, the idea of a domain name involving rocks seemed appropriate. Something humorous seemed even better.
  2. It has a nice, lilting quality that leads people to remember it. They may not be able to type it, but at least they'll remember it.
  3. I like it.
  4. The phrase appears in Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Near the beginning of chapter 12, a news reader says: "and we'll be saying a big hello to all intelligent life forms everywhere ... and to everyone else out there, the secret is to bang the rocks together, guys." The fact that I latched onto an obscure -- and essentially irrelevant -- quote from that particular book may tell you more about my personal outlook on life than you really need to know.
  5. I miss Douglas Adams.
