During an art show I had a block of translucent, white Italian
alabaster out. I often bring some raw stones with me so people
can see the starting and ending points in my work. A young girl
walked up and pointed at this stone and asked me what it was
going to be. I had no idea, so I asked what she thought it was.
Her answer was quick: "a polar bear."
It did, indeed, become that polar bear. I call this work
Morning Light because she (yes, the bear is a she to me) is
looking out at the dawn horizon, perhaps just waking.
Dimensions:
Approximately 18 inches from nose to tail,
9 inches tall, and 8 inches wide.
This is quite a bit of stone - 50 pounds or more - so it has to
be displayed on something suitably strong.
Morning Light is available for purchase. Please contact the artist for more information.
