In this column we begin a introducing the members of your volunteer
fire department. Each month we pick someone at random and tell you
a bit about them and why the joined the department. The first profile
is of Frank Schonig.
Frank came to our annual barbecue when he was in second grade and has been interested in the fire service ever since, but he actually joined LPVFR in 2006. In addition to responding with us, he's a seasonal fire fighter with CAL FIRE and a physical fitness trainer at Cadence Fitness in Los Gatos. He's lived in the Loma Prieta area all his life, so this is definitely home. Frank aspires to move up the ranks in CAL FIRE, perhaps becoming a battalion chief in time. I asked Frank about his favorite call and this is what he told me: "It's 0330 and the quick call goes off. We jump out of bed ready to respond. Initial report is smell of 'burnt hair and onion' out side of the residence. Upon arrival at the house we noticed a skunk fleeing the scene." If only every call was that simple. LPVFR is glad to have Frank as a member of the department. If you know Frank or meet him while he's out on a call, please thank him for his service and support! |
